New Orleans, LA — In a decisive outcome from Saturday’s open primary election, Helena Moreno has been elected as the next Mayor of New Orleans, securing approximately 55% of the vote and avoiding a runoff.
Moreno—currently serving as a City Council member at-large and formerly as City Council President—ran a robust campaign against rivals including state Senator Royce Duplessis, who earned roughly 22%, and fellow councilmember Oliver Thomas, who garnered about 19%.
A Mandate to Lead
On election night, with 229 of 349 precincts reporting, Moreno declared victory at 9:37 p.m. She emphasized that the real work begins immediately, stating that her administration will focus on strengthening city services, infrastructure, and economic opportunity
