Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday warned those threatening to ban her party Awami League, saying the Awami League is not a parasite and has not emerged with the floodwaters.
The former prime minister, without naming the leaders who demanded a ban on his party, attacked them and said, “Their audacity amazes me. They should not think that I have left everything and gone away. According to the constitution, I am still the prime minister of Bangladesh. His power has no legitimacy.”
Addressing party workers and supporters virtually, Hasina, who has been staying in India since August last year, said, “What are the rights of those demanding a ban. Yunus himself is a fascist because he carried out brutal crackdown on workers, teachers, students and others who were campaigning for their just demands.”
It is noteworthy that the National Citizens Party and some right-wing groups have demanded a ban on the Awami League. Hasina said that Yunus has no constitutional basis or mandate to run the country, he has taken power under a “well-planned conspiracy” with money received from abroad.
