India needs to be cautious after the US-Vietnam deal. This is what trade experts say. Trade experts said that India should be cautious while discussing the trade deal with America. They should keep in mind the terms of the US trade agreement with Vietnam. As per the new trade deal announced by President Donald Trump, the US will now impose a flat tariff of 20 per cent on goods coming from Vietnam.
In addition, a tariff of 40 per cent will also be levied on transshipped goods. However, previously under the US-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) of 2000, Vietnamese goods were subject to a 2-10 percent duty. But in the new agreement, goods coming through other countries will also be taxed. This is different from the rules, as earlier duty or exemption was given based on the origin of the goods. Now Indian trade analysts are working on an agreement with the US. They have to make an interim agreement before the deadline of 9 July.
US President Trump has posted on X regarding the deal with Vietnam. In this, he said that the conditions are that Vietnam will pay 20% duty on all goods sent to our country. At the same time, 40% duty will be paid on any transshipping. This means that goods coming directly from Vietnam will be taxed at 20 per cent, and if any goods go to America from any other country via Vietnam, then a tax of 40 per cent will be imposed on it.
