India names Ahmedabad for 2036 Olympics: submitted bid 8 months ago

SPORTS & BUSINESSIndia names Ahmedabad for 2036 Olympics: submitted bid 8 months ago

India has proposed the name of Ahmedabad to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2036 Olympic Games. In a meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday, the Indian delegation including the Union Sports Ministry, Gujarat Government and IOA President PT Usha presented their case to the IOC. The meeting came after new International Olympic Council (IOC) president Kirsty Coventry put a halt to future Olympic host bidding processes.

IOC members want to have a greater say in the selection of the host country, so a new process will be prepared by forming a working group. India is not alone in the race for the 2036 Olympics. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey and Chile are also in the race to host. On October 1 last year, the Indian government expressed its desire to host the games through a letter of intent to the IOC. Why was Ahmedabad chosen? This is the first time that India has officially named a city for the Olympics.

India’s Olympic Committee said, by organizing the Olympics in Ahmedabad, 60 crore young Indians will get a chance to watch the Olympics in the country for the first time. Along with this, India will give the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and make the Olympics a family experience for people all over the world. Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi said, we are working together with the IOC to make this shared dream a reality. We are ready to become a strong partner in the coming months.
