Kent, Washington – The City of Kent has released a flooding update as of December 21 at 3:35 a.m., warning residents of ongoing high water conditions due to heavy rainfall. Officials say the City of Kent’s drainage system is working at full capacity to manage runoff; however, flooding remains an issue in several low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Emergency crews are actively responding to conditions across the city, coordinating with regional partners and nearby jurisdictions. Authorities emphasized that conditions may continue to change as weather patterns evolve and urged residents to remain cautious.

Current Road Conditions:

  • New Open: Westbound SR 167 at the 180th Ave SE to 81st Ave S / Auburn Way N

  • Eastbound SR 167: From 180th Ave SE to Kent city limits

  • Green River Road: From the 5th St overpass to Kent city limits

  • James Street at the River: Closed

  • 84th Ave S: Between S 228th St and S 240th St

  • Open with Water Over the Roadway: W Valley Hwy / 68th Ave S (from Willis St to S 217th St)

Additional closures include:

  • Full Road Closures:

    • S 212nd St (from 78th Ave S to 272nd St)

    • 78th Ave S (from S 277th St to S 262nd St)

City officials advise drivers to avoid flooded roadways, follow detours, and never attempt to drive through standing water. Residents are encouraged to sign up for Alert Kent to receive real-time emergency notifications.

Traffic control and emergency monitoring remain in place, and updates will be provided as conditions change.
