USAKent Police Arrest Armed Felon After Confrontation During Attempted Theft Investigation

KENT, Wash. – October 27, 2025 — A 43-year-old man from Kent was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly resisting officers during an investigation into an attempted theft. Police later discovered he was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the Kent Police Department, patrol officers responded around 6:50 a.m. to a business in the 200 block of Washington Avenue South after receiving reports of suspects attempting to break into a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a car matching the suspect description and observed three people inside. Drug paraphernalia and what appeared to be a rock of fentanyl were visible within the vehicle.

The driver, a 30-year-old Chehalis man, complied with officers’ commands and was arrested without incident. He reportedly had fentanyl in his pocket and was booked for possession of illegal narcotics.

However, a 43-year-old male passenger refused to cooperate. After repeatedly ignoring commands and making suspicious hand movements, officers attempted to remove him from the vehicle. He resisted and struggled with officers before being taken into custody. A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from the vehicle, later confirmed to have been stolen in Everett in August 2025.

The male passenger was arrested for an active Department of Corrections (DOC) Escape Warrant, four counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of Illegal Drugs. He also faces an additional charge of resisting arrest.

A female passenger was detained but not charged.

Kent Police praised the officers involved for safely de-escalating the situation, noting that incidents involving armed suspects can turn dangerous quickly. “Good decisions protected the community and the officers,” the department stated.

For information or resources on substance abuse or fentanyl awareness, the Kent Police Department provided links to DEA Fentanyl Awareness, 988 Crisis Lifeline, and local treatment programs.
