Kent, WA — October 30, 2025:
The Kent Police Department (KPD) has issued a statement reassuring residents that a recent email many received from the department is legitimate and not a scam.
The clarification comes after a number of community members reported receiving unexpected messages referencing police reports filed in their names. According to KPD, the issue stemmed from a technical glitch during the department’s transition to a new records management system.
The department explained that its previous system was more than 22 years old and that the upgrade to a new platform caused an automated message to be sent prematurely to several recipients.
“Many of you received a version of the below message. This was the glitch. If you received this, it is not a scam,” the department stated in a Facebook post.
KPD said that once the error was discovered, staff worked immediately with the system vendor to determine the source of the issue. The department has since confirmed that the message was non-malicious and that there is no cause for concern.
Residents who received the message do not need to call or respond, as the issue has been resolved.
The department also thanked the community for its patience and cooperation during the transition period, emphasizing its continued commitment to customer service and transparency.
For further updates, residents are encouraged to follow the Kent Police Department’s official communication channels.
