Kent, WA — The Kent Police Department has released a safe driving advisory as heavy rain, high winds, flooding, and power outages continue to create hazardous road conditions across the region.
Authorities are urging drivers to slow down and remain alert for fallen branches, trees, and debris that may be blocking roadways. Motorists should leave extra space between vehicles and watch closely for pedestrians, children, cyclists, and motorcyclists, who may be harder to see in poor weather.
Police also advise keeping headlights on at all times, maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel during strong winds, and never driving through standing water. Drivers and pedestrians are warned not to go around road closure barricades.
In the event of a downed power line, residents are instructed to stay away, as wet ground and debris can conduct electricity. If a power line falls on a vehicle, occupants should remain inside and call 911 immediately. Any downed power lines should be reported to emergency services right away.
Officials stress that caution and patience can help prevent accidents and keep everyone safe during severe weather.
