Kent, WA — The Kent Police Department has recognized Traffic Officer Bateman for three decades of dedicated service, presenting him with a 30-year longevity plaque from Chief Padilla.
Officer Bateman has served in multiple roles since joining the department in 1995, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and Narcotics K9 Handler. He began his tenure with the Traffic Division in 2011 and later earned a pilot certification to operate drones in 2017.
Colleagues describe Officer Bateman as a reliable, hard-working, and humble team member — someone who consistently goes above and beyond. In 2023, he was honored by his peers as the Kent Police Officer of the Year.
Over the past 14 years working in traffic enforcement, Bateman has become a leading investigator in complex collision cases. His extensive training includes WSP’s 80-hour Advanced Collision Investigation, 120-hour Collision Reconstructionist Certification, and specialized courses in commercial vehicle enforcement, heavy truck collisions, and motorcycle and pedestrian accident analysis.
He has also completed advanced training in crash energy analysis, aerial photogrammetry, and 3D reconstruction technologies. Earlier this year, he attended the 2023 World Reconstruction Exposition (WREX), where international experts shared insights on the latest techniques in accident reconstruction.
Kent Police officials praised Officer Bateman’s continued dedication to professionalism, skill development, and community service.
“Fatal and serious car accidents are often the worst day of someone’s life. When Officer Bateman shows up, you know your accident will be fully and competently investigated,” the department shared.
After 30 years of outstanding service, Officer Bateman remains a respected member of the Kent Police Department, admired by colleagues and the community alike.
