KENT, Wash. — A Kent Police officer is being recognized for his swift response and teamwork during a fire at an occupied building in downtown Kent last week.
According to the Kent Police Department, officers and crews from Puget Sound Fire were dispatched after a pile of materials caught fire next to a downtown building. Officer Stotler was among the first responders to arrive on scene and quickly determined the situation was more dangerous than initially reported.
Police said Officer Stotler immediately alerted dispatchers, prompting an upgraded fire response. Before additional crews arrived, he assisted firefighters by helping secure a hydrant connection and then entered the building to begin evacuating residents.
Authorities reported that all occupants were safely evacuated and the fire was successfully extinguished without injuries.
Puget Sound Fire officials later commended Officer Stotler for his actions, highlighting the importance of cooperation between emergency responders during critical incidents. Kent Police also praised the efforts of firefighters and officers who worked together to ensure the safety of residents.
