Kent, WA – The Kent Police Department has recognized two officers with Lifesaving Awards for their swift and courageous actions that helped save lives during separate emergency incidents earlier this year.

Chief Rafael Padilla presented the awards to Officer Cody Blowers and Crime Reduction Unit Sergeant Goforth, praising their dedication, quick decision-making, and commitment to protecting the community.

Officer Cody Blowers Recognized for Emergency Medical Response

Officer Cody Blowers received the Lifesaving Award for his actions on January 8, 2026, when members of the Regional SWAT team were assisting the Kent Special Investigations Unit in locating a suspect wanted for multiple felony offenses. During the operation, the suspect exited a residence and fired shots while yelling at officers.

Following the confrontation, officers entered the home and discovered the suspect suffering from a serious gunshot wound. Officer Blowers immediately provided critical first aid, controlling severe bleeding and rendering emergency medical assistance until medics arrived. Officials credited his rapid response and medical intervention with helping save the individual’s life.

Sergeant Goforth Honored for Rescue During Vehicle Fire

Sergeant Goforth was recognized for his bravery during an incident on February 3, 2026, while patrolling a business complex parking lot in Kent. He noticed smoke and flames coming from a parked vehicle and heard a man yelling for help from inside a nearby trash compactor.

Upon investigation, Sergeant Goforth discovered the man was trapped and surrounded by heavy smoke and fire. Despite the danger, he entered the area, pulled the victim away from the flames, and brought him to safety. The rescued individual suffered burns and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Chief Padilla commended both officers for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to serving the community, noting that their actions exemplify the Kent Police Department’s mission of protecting and caring for residents.
