The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought evidence from the complainant who filed a petition over ‘open defecation’ due to alleged lack of toilets or clean bio-toilets during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, to verify his allegations.

The authority on Monday directed the petitioner to provide supporting material to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board. A bench of tribunal chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava and expert member A Senthil was hearing the petition filed on February 14.

It alleged that lakhs of common people and families are being forced to defecate in the open on the banks of river Ganga in the absence of adequate facilities and this is due to lack of toilets or clean bio-toilets. The bench asked for evidence from the petitioner
