USAMan Arrested for Homicide After Lengthy SWAT Standoff in North Seattle

Seattle, WA —
A 51-year-old man was taken into custody by Seattle police after a tense five-hour standoff with the Seattle Police Department’s SWAT team in North Seattle on Monday afternoon. The incident began following reports of threats involving a knife in the 1100 block of North 84th Street.

When patrol officers arrived at approximately 11:45 a.m., they discovered a man inside a residence suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by both officers and members of the Seattle Fire Department (SFD), the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, refusing to comply with commands from police negotiators. SWAT officers arrived and assumed tactical control of the scene. After nearly five hours of negotiation, officers used less-lethal tools to safely apprehend the suspect when he finally exited the residence.

The Homicide and Crime Scene Investigation Units responded to process the scene, and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.

The suspect, who remains unnamed pending official booking, is expected to be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Murder. The case remains under active investigation by Seattle Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
