Seattle, WA — A 27-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting early Saturday morning near the Chinatown-International District, police said.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. near 12th Avenue South and South Main Street following a large disturbance after a nearby hookah lounge closed. Officers arrived and spoke with the 34-year-old lounge owner, who reportedly fired his handgun to break up the altercation. The owner was transported to Seattle Police Headquarters for questioning by the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) and was later released.

Shortly after police arrived on scene, the victim walked into Swedish Hospital with injuries consistent with a shotgun blast. He was then transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he is in serious but stable condition.

Police believe an unidentified suspect armed with a shotgun fired at the victim in a parking lot across the street from the hookah lounge. Investigators have not yet determined how the shooting is connected to the earlier disturbance, and no suspects are currently in custody.

The GVRU detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to call the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
