RENTON, Wash. — The Renton Police Department is investigating an active standoff that unfolded Wednesday evening in a residential neighborhood in Renton.

Police said officers responded around 5:20 p.m. to reports of a suspect barricading themselves inside a home in the 1700 block of 28th Lane. Authorities initially attempted to contact the individual, but the situation escalated.

During the response, officers reported that the suspect fired a weapon. In turn, at least one officer discharged their firearm. Officials confirmed that the suspect was struck and later taken into custody.

According to police, there is no ongoing threat to the public. The scene has been secured, and the individual remains contained while investigators process the area.

An officer involved in the shooting was identified as being assigned to the 1200 block of 120th Lane SE during the incident. The department stated that the case remains under active investigation.

The shooting will be reviewed under standard protocol. Additional details, including the condition of the suspect and the officer, have not yet been released.

Renton is located in Washington, within King County. Authorities are urging residents to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
