During his China visit, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus, had commented on the northeastern states of India to show off in front of Xi Jinping. During this, Yunus had described Bangladesh as the guardian of the Bay of Bengal.
Now Foreign Minister S Jaishankar not only rubbished Yunus’ claims but also gave him a geography lesson. Jaishankar said that ‘We have the longest coastline in the Bay of Bengal, which is about 6,500 kilometers.
India not only shares borders with five BIMSTEC members, but also links most of them. Let us tell you that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar participated in the 20th BIMSTEC ministerial meeting on Thursday. During this, he gave a befitting reply to Yunus without naming him.
He said, ‘Our North-East region is emerging as a connectivity hub especially for BIMSTEC, with a myriad network of roads, railways, waterways, grids and pipelines.’
