Seattle, WA — Seattle police officers arrested a 29-year-old man and recovered an assault rifle early this morning during ongoing nightlife emphasis patrols in Pioneer Square.
Around 2:15 a.m., as bars were closing near the 300 block of 2nd Avenue South, officers were enforcing trespass hours in nearby parking lots to deter gun-related incidents. During the patrol, a sergeant detained a man after a loaded short-barrel rifle with a 30-round magazine fell from his vehicle.
The man—identified as a denied firearm applicant—was taken into custody without incident. After completing their investigation, officers released him and forwarded criminal charges to the Seattle City Attorney’s Office for unlawful possession of a loaded rifle in a motor vehicle.
Police recovered the firearm as evidence.
Acting Assistant Chief Rob Brown said the Pioneer Square nightlife emphasis strategy continues to produce results:
“This strategy has been very effective at seizing unlawfully possessed guns from an area that has traditionally been impacted by nightlife gun violence incidents.”
