INTERNATIONALPutin's general killed in car bomb blast amid Russia-Ukraine war

A Russian general was killed by a bomb in his car in Moscow on Friday, the second such attack on a top Russian military official in four months.

Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalyak, deputy chief of the Main Operations Department at the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in Balashikha, Moscow’s capital, the top criminal investigation agency said.

The blast occurred just as US President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witcalf was scheduled to meet Vladimir Putin to discuss a brokered peace plan for Ukraine.

Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said the explosives were laced with shrapnel. She said investigators were at the scene. The committee did not name possible suspects. The attack comes after the assassination of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov. The explosion sent the car flying several meters into the air.
