The US Commission on International Religious Freedom alleged that minorities were being treated badly in India. The Commission recommended a ban on India’s spy agency RAW. The US commission also alleged the intelligence agency’s involvement in a murderous conspiracy against Sikh separatists.
The commission also recommended declaring India as a ‘country of special concern’. The report said that in order to deal with China, the US tried to build close relations with India. Because of this, human rights cases in India were ignored.
Experts believe that there is little hope that the US will impose sanctions on India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). But now everyone’s eyes are on the decision of the Trump administration. Actually, it is not mandatory for the government to follow the commission’s order. Now it remains to be seen whether Trump accepts it or not.
