RENTON, Wash. — The Renton Police Department has announced extensive preparations for the arrival of Belgium’s national soccer team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Beginning June 8, Renton will serve as the base camp for the Belgian Red Devils during the tournament.
According to the department, officers will provide security at the team’s hotel and training facilities, including the Sounders FC Center at Longacres. Police officials said planning and coordination efforts have been underway for more than a year to ensure the event is conducted safely and efficiently.
In addition to team-related security, the department will maintain a presence at Legacy Square, where public watch parties and fan celebrations are scheduled to take place throughout the tournament. Neighboring law enforcement agencies are expected to assist with operations.
Officials emphasized that FIFA grant funding will cover World Cup-related security costs, stating that local taxpayers will not bear the expense. Renton police also noted that regular emergency response services will continue uninterrupted during the event.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to bring thousands of visitors and soccer fans to the Seattle metropolitan area, with Renton playing a key role as a host community.
