Rising Cedar River Causes Road Closures and Safety Warnings in Renton

USARising Cedar River Causes Road Closures and Safety Warnings in Renton

RENTON, WA — City officials have issued public safety warnings as rising water levels in the Cedar River have caused localized flooding, road closures, and hazardous conditions in parts of Renton.

According to the City of Renton and Renton Emergency Management, parks and recreational areas along the Cedar River have been impacted, with water reaching pathways and low-lying areas. Authorities urge residents to avoid standing on bridges and staying near riverbanks, as fast-moving water remains dangerous and unpredictable.

Officials also warned that water levels may continue to rise, increasing the risk of debris in the river and erosion along the banks. Several access points and trails near the river have been temporarily closed for public safety.

Residents are advised to:

  • Avoid flooded roads and walking paths

  • Never drive through standing or moving water

  • Keep children and pets away from riverbanks

  • Follow posted barricades and closure notices

Emergency services are actively monitoring conditions. In case of emergencies, residents should call 911. For non-emergency situations, the public is encouraged to contact the appropriate city services.

The city will continue to provide updates as conditions change and urges residents to stay informed through official Renton communication channels.
