USARobbery Turns Violent in Pioneer Square as Man Shot Over $20 Necklace

Police are investigating an early-morning robbery that left a 23-year-old man wounded in downtown Pioneer Square, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded around 12:40 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of 2nd Avenue in Seattle. When patrol units arrived, they located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his right thigh.

Personnel from the Seattle Fire Department provided emergency medical aid at the scene before the victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center. Authorities said he was listed in stable condition.

Investigators determined the victim had just left a nearby bar and was getting into a friend’s vehicle when a suspect wearing a ski mask approached him while armed with a firearm. The suspect demanded the victim’s necklace, valued at approximately $20. During a struggle over the chain, the suspect shot the victim in the leg and fled the scene in a vehicle with the necklace before officers arrived.

Detectives from SPD’s Robbery Unit responded to both the crime scene and the hospital as part of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. Anonymous tips are accepted.
