In India The government has increased the salary of MPs by 24%. On Monday, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding this. According to this, the current MPs will now get Rs 1.24 lakh per month. Earlier they used to get Rs 1 lakh per month.
This increase has been made on the basis of Cost Inflation Index. The increased salary will be applicable from April 1, 2023.
Earlier in 2018, the Modi government had made a rule to review the salaries and allowances of MPs every five years. This review is based on the inflation rate.
Daily allowance and pension have also been increased. Daily allowance has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500. The pension of former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month.
The extra pension given every year to members who have been MPs for more than five years has also been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month.
