Seattle Encourages Residents to Shop Small This Holiday Season

USASeattle Encourages Residents to Shop Small This Holiday Season

Seattle, WA — As the holiday season approaches, the City of Seattle is encouraging residents to support local shops and restaurants for Small Business Saturday and throughout the festive season. Officials say small businesses form the backbone of Seattle’s economy, showcasing the city’s creativity, cultural diversity, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Small Business Saturday, launched nationally in 2010, falls on Saturday, November 29 this year. The goal is simple: shop at a local store or dine at a neighborhood restaurant to help support the city’s independent business community.

City leaders emphasize that every dollar spent locally has a significant impact. For every $100 spent at a small business, an estimated $48–$68 is reinvested back into the community. Shopping local also generates 3.5 times more wealth for neighborhoods, helping communities thrive year-round.

How to Support Seattle’s Small Businesses This Season

Seattle residents have a variety of ways to participate:

  • Use the Small Business Administration’s “Find a Business” tool to discover participating shops.

  • Browse the Intentionalist directory to find and support local small businesses citywide.

  • Visit Pike Place Market for its 30th Annual Magic in the Market celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., ending with a festive tree lighting at 5 p.m.

  • Explore the C-ID Small Business Saturday Food Walk, featuring exclusive discounts and special bites.

  • Support Asian American creators at the Meet the Maker Holiday Market at Little Saigon Creative.

  • Visit Seattle Restored pop-up shops in Downtown and Lake City, including the Holiday Happening event at Pacific Place on December 13.

  • Enjoy free two-hour parking at Butler Garage in Pioneer Square and join the Annual Ornament Scavenger Hunt, running December 1–20 with daily clues.

  • Stop by the West Seattle Hometown Holidays for local shopping and festive activities.

  • Unlock savings through the Visit Seattle Perks Pass, offering discounts at local shops, restaurants, and attractions.

The City of Seattle says its office remains committed to helping small businesses grow, providing a range of resources to support entrepreneurs and strengthen neighborhood commercial districts.

As the holiday season ramps up, officials hope these events and programs will inspire residents to “shop small,” support local workers, and celebrate the community businesses that help define Seattle’s identity.
