Seattle, WA — Seattle police arrested a 47-year-old convicted felon Tuesday morning after he was found carrying a stolen, loaded handgun in North Seattle.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded at approximately 8:00 a.m. on November 4 to reports of an alleged robbery in the 8700 block of Aurora Avenue North. The initial 911 alert was sent via text message.

When officers arrived, they located two men matching the reported descriptions walking away from the area. Both were detained for questioning while officers met with the reported victim. Investigators later determined that no robbery had occurred, but one of the men had been seen inside an apartment holding a handgun.

During questioning, officers recovered a loaded firearm, which was later confirmed to have been reported stolen nearly eight years ago in New Llano, Louisiana.

The suspect, identified as a multi-convicted felon and registered sex offender, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. As a felon, he is prohibited from owning or carrying firearms.

After his arrest, the suspect was initially taken to King County Jail (KCJ) for booking, but staff declined to admit him after he claimed to have swallowed methamphetamine. Officers then transported him to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) for medical evaluation. Once cleared, he was booked into KCJ.

Police said the man is also wanted in connection with an additional felony case currently under investigation, and further charges may be added for failure to register as a sex offender.

The Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) has been assigned to investigate the case further.
