Seattle police arrested a 33-year-old man Tuesday night after he attempted to flee from officers in Capitol Hill — a move consistent with his history of running from law enforcement.
Around 7:00 p.m. on September 30, officers responded to reports of a man pointing a firearm at people in the 200 block of Harvard Avenue East. When they arrived, the suspect crouched outside a nearby business in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.
Officers quickly recognized him as a repeat offender with prior felony arrests and a reputation for carrying firearms. When approached, the suspect fled on foot, sparking a chase through the neighborhood. The pursuit continued until the man scaled a fence and ran through a parking lot, briefly evading officers.
A police K9 unit and a King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter joined the search. Ultimately, the suspect was located hiding between trees in a parking lot on Harvard Avenue East.
Police recovered 2.8 grams of methamphetamine and an unspent round of ammunition during the arrest, though no firearm was found.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail on charges of obstruction and narcotics possession. Detectives from the Narcotics Unit are now leading the investigation.
