Seattle, WA — November 3, 2025:
Seattle police officers rescued a woman from a burning apartment in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood Sunday evening after responding to a welfare check that quickly turned into a fire emergency.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment building in the 500 block of 14th Avenue East. Upon reaching the ninth floor, they heard a fire alarm sounding from one of the units.
Neighbors told officers that the alarm had been ringing for about 30 minutes without response from the resident. Fearing someone might be in danger, officers forced entry into the unit.
Inside, the apartment was filled with smoke, and flames were visible on the stovetop. Officers discovered a 47-year-old woman inside the residence who appeared confused and disoriented. They quickly pulled her to safety.
Moments later, the Seattle Fire Department arrived on scene, extinguished the fire, and briefly evacuated residents from the upper floors due to heavy smoke. After determining the building was safe, firefighters allowed residents to return to their apartments.
The woman was transported by medics to Harborview Medical Center for further evaluation. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities said the incident caused a temporary disruption in the area due to the large emergency response but credited officers’ swift actions for preventing a potential tragedy.
