Community leaders and volunteers across King County came together to support local food banks as part of the annual Regional Day of Service, highlighting growing efforts to combat food insecurity during the holiday season.
Councilmember Girmay Zahilay thanked residents and volunteers who participated by donating time and resources to help neighbors in need. Volunteers served at four food banks across King County, reinforcing a commitment to community engagement and direct service.
Among those participating were South County leaders, including newly elected Tukwila Councilmember Steffanie Fain, Tukwila Mayor Tom McLeod, and Douglas Baldwin, who joined in the volunteer efforts.
Officials noted that food banks are currently experiencing record and growing demand, driven by rising food prices and increased food insecurity. Community members are encouraged to continue supporting local food banks through donations and volunteer service.
Residents interested in donating can find their nearest food bank through King County’s food resource map.
