Detectives with the Seattle Police Department are investigating a shooting that left a 33-year-old man seriously injured in South Seattle on the evening of February 12.
Police say officers responded around 6:29 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 3800 block of South Angeline Street. When they arrived, they found a man outside suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers and firefighters provided emergency medical aid before the victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Shooter Called 911 After Incident
According to investigators, a 27-year-old man later called 911 and reported his involvement in the shooting. Officers located and arrested him nearby, recovering a firearm. He was taken to police headquarters, where detectives conducted an interview.
Police Say Shooting Followed Forced Entry and Assault
Preliminary findings indicate the injured man allegedly forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulted her new boyfriend — the armed 27-year-old who then fired the shot. Detectives currently believe the shooting may have been in self-defense, based on early evidence.
After questioning, police released the shooter from custody. The case remains open and active.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say detectives continue reviewing evidence and witness statements as the investigation moves forward in Seattle.
