Creative minds interested in aerospace and design have an opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops at the Museum of Flight in Seattle as part of the ongoing Spacesuit Design Contest.
The museum is hosting a series of free “First Thursdays” drop-in workshops aimed at helping participants develop their spacesuit concepts. These sessions are designed to guide entrants through the fundamentals of spacesuit components, encourage idea development, and assist in turning initial sketches into more refined designs.
Upcoming workshop sessions will take place on March 5 and April 2 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, focusing on understanding spacesuit systems and designing control panels. Additional sessions on May 7 and June 4 will allow participants to bring their in-progress designs for feedback and improvement from museum staff.
The Spacesuit Design Contest challenges entrants to create original, non-functional wearable spacesuits based on specified themes and guidelines. Selected top designs in each category will be constructed and showcased in a fashion show scheduled for June 27, 2026. Winning entries will later be featured in the “Fashion in Flight” exhibition in November 2026.
The initiative aims to blend creativity with STEM education, offering participants a unique platform to explore aerospace concepts through design and innovation.
