Seattle, WA — A 28-year-old man was taken into custody late Tuesday night following a tense standoff with Seattle police in the West Queen Anne neighborhood. The incident began on November 4, after the suspect allegedly threatened to kill another resident while armed with a knife.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers were first dispatched around 4:30 p.m. to the 2200 block of 15th Avenue West following reports of threats. When police arrived, they learned the suspect had been making violent threats against another individual in the building.
Around 6:15 p.m., the man exited his apartment wearing body armor and a Kevlar helmet. As officers moved to detain him, he ran into a nearby stairwell and began stabbing a door with a knife before retreating back into his apartment and barricading himself inside.
Crisis negotiators and members of the Seattle Police SWAT team responded to the scene and worked for several hours to de-escalate the situation. After officers obtained a search warrant, SWAT members entered the apartment and arrested the suspect without incident at approximately 8:25 p.m.
Police recovered multiple knives, body armor, and a Kevlar helmet from the scene.
While in custody, the suspect allegedly bit, kicked, and spat at officers, leading to additional charges. He was booked into the King County Jail for multiple felony offenses and an outstanding $2,500 assault warrant.
