Tech Mahindra’s country head Amit Singh arrested in Qatar, police not disclosing the crime

POLITICS & LAWSTech Mahindra's country head Amit Singh arrested in Qatar, police not disclosing the crime

The arrest of Indian citizen Amit Gupta in Qatar has caught everyone’s attention. But the surprising thing is that till now the Qatar government has not given any official statement on this. Experts believe that Qatar is considering it an internal legal matter, which comes under the purview of their country’s law.

Another reason could be that many countries including Qatar do not say anything on ongoing legal cases until a decision comes from the court. Apart from this, since relations with India are sensitive, Qatar probably wants to resolve this matter through private diplomatic channels.

Amit Gupta was working as the regional head of Qatar and Kuwait at Tech Mahindra. He was in this role for the last three years and has more than 12 years of experience with the company. Gupta has been accused of data theft by the Qatar government, although no details have been given about the allegations so far.

His family and Tech Mahindra claim that Amit is innocent and has been framed. The family says that they are constantly in touch with Amit and he should be given a chance to present his side. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India’s Doha Embassy is keeping an eye on this case. He said that on March 28, 2025, the Indian Embassy was allowed to meet Amit.

They are able to talk to their families on phone and are also getting legal help. The Ministry of External Affairs also clarified that some other Indians have also been detained in Qatar due to similar investigations.
