The Bangladeshi army said on Sunday that security has been beefed up across the country in view of Hindu festivals. Thousands of Hindus are celebrating Maha Ashtami and Basanti Puja and taking holy baths. Hindus constitute about eight percent of Bangladesh’s population.
Let us tell you that recently PM Narendra Modi had visited Thailand, where he met the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus. During this time Modi had raised the issue of security of Hindus in Bangladesh. Increasing security during Hindu festivals is being seen as its effect.
The army said that Hindu festivals are being celebrated in a peaceful atmosphere. Soldiers are deployed to ensure security at puja pandals, ghats and religious places, especially in Langolband on the outskirts of Dhaka where thousands of people gather for the holy bath.
Hundreds of devotees also took bath in the Brahmaputra river in the northwestern region of Lalmonirhat. The army is providing all possible help to the devotees. The army also held meetings with Hindu community leaders and puja organisers and assured them of security during the festival.
