The World Health Organisation (WHO) has extended travel restrictions on Pakistan for three months due to concerns over polio. The decision was taken during the 41st meeting of the Emergency Committee held on March 6.
Officials from polio-affected countries attended the meeting virtually. According to the World Health Organisation, the committee reviewed the global spread of polio, the situation in Pakistan and the government’s efforts to control the spread of the virus.
The findings said Pakistan and Afghanistan remain a threat to global polio eradication efforts. Both countries have been blamed for the global spread of the polio virus. So far this year, six confirmed cases of polio have been reported in Pakistan. Last year, 74 cases were reported.
