USAThree New Light Rail Stations Set to Open in South King County

South King County is preparing to welcome three new light rail stations as part of the upcoming Federal Way Link Extension, marking a major milestone in regional transit expansion.

Councilmember Girmay Zahilay announced that the new stations at Kent/Des Moines, Star Lake, and Federal Way will officially open this Saturday. The expansion is expected to significantly improve public transportation access, offering faster and more reliable travel while supporting economic growth in the region.

“This is a big step for our region,” Zahilay said, noting that the new stations will strengthen mobility, connect communities, and help power the local economy.

He also extended thanks to Sound Transit, construction teams, planners, architects, transit advocates, and South King County residents for their years of dedication to the project. Special recognition was given to Pete von Reichbauer of King County for his long-term efforts in helping bring the project to completion.

The Federal Way Link Extension is one of the most anticipated transit projects in South King County and is expected to dramatically improve commuting options for thousands of residents.
