USATSA to Enforce REAL ID Requirement Starting February 1

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has reminded travelers that beginning February 1, passengers without a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification will be required to verify their identity using TSA ConfirmID at airport security checkpoints.

According to TSA, travelers who do not present a REAL ID–compliant driver’s license or valid alternative ID may face additional screening steps, which could lead to delays. The agency is urging passengers to obtain a REAL ID as soon as possible to avoid last-minute travel stress, especially during peak travel periods.

“Future you will be glad you did,” TSA stated in its announcement, emphasizing that securing a REAL ID now can help ensure smoother airport experiences.

REAL ID–compliant licenses are marked with a star in the upper portion of the card and are issued by state departments of motor vehicles. Acceptable alternatives include passports and certain federally approved IDs.

Travelers can find more information and check their eligibility at the official TSA website.
