Trump administration is continuously taking action against illegal immigrants. A few days ago, the plane carrying 112 Indians evacuated from America reached Amritsar. People from the Sikh community were also included among those deported. Many of the deported Sikh community people did not have turbans on their heads.
Some of the deportees spoke to the news agency and described how Sikh religious items such as turbans were disrespected and thrown into dustbins in the detention centers set up for the deportees. Davinder Singh was sent to the detention center on charges of illegally crossing the border and entering the US. Davinder told that it was very sad to see the turbans being thrown in the dustbin.
He further said that the immigrants were not given proper food and were given only “thin” blankets to protect themselves from the cold because the air conditioners were being run at low temperatures. When we told them we were cold, they were not bothered at all.” Singh described the 18 days he spent in the detention center as the worst days of his life and described it as ‘mentally traumatic’.
