Seattle, WA —
Seattle police are investigating an attempted armed carjacking in the Belltown/Queen Anne area early Sunday morning that left two suspects hospitalized after being shot by a legally armed victim.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2200 block of 1st Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately detained him. The victim, identified as a licensed gun owner, was also detained for questioning, and police recovered his firearm at the scene.
Firefighters and medics provided treatment to the injured suspect, who was transported to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) in serious condition. He remains under police guard.
According to investigators, the victim had just parked his sports car when a white sedan carrying four masked individuals pulled up beside him. After a brief exchange, two armed men exited the sedan and attempted to steal his vehicle. Fearing for his life, the victim fired multiple rounds, striking one of the suspects.
The remaining suspects fled the area in the white sedan before officers arrived.
While detectives were processing the crime scene, another suspect — also suffering from a gunshot wound — was dropped off at Harborview Medical Center by occupants of a white sedan matching the suspect vehicle’s description. The car fled before police could intercept it. The second suspect is also hospitalized in serious condition and under police guard.
The Seattle Police Robbery Unit continues to investigate the incident. Officers collected evidence, interviewed witnesses, and transported the victim to police headquarters for questioning before releasing him.
