Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Department of State has announced a strict enforcement measure targeting individuals with significant unpaid child support, warning that their U.S. passports may be revoked.
In coordination with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, officials stated that individuals who owe substantial child support must arrange payments with their respective state child support enforcement agencies to avoid losing their travel privileges.
According to the announcement, those who fail to resolve their outstanding debt risk having their passports revoked. Additionally, individuals outside the United States at the time of revocation will face travel restrictions and will only be eligible for a limited-validity passport, which allows direct return to the U.S.
Authorities emphasized that this move is aimed at strengthening enforcement of child support obligations and ensuring accountability. The policy reinforces existing federal efforts to collect overdue payments and support families relying on these funds.
Officials are urging affected individuals to act promptly to avoid disruptions, especially those planning international travel.
