SEATTLE — October 25, 2025: The University Bridge in Seattle was closed to traffic at 12:40 PM on Saturday, according to an announcement from the Seattle Department of Transportation’s bridges division (@SDOTbridges) on X (formerly Twitter).
SDOT did not immediately provide details about the reason for the closure. The University Bridge, which connects the University District and Eastlake neighborhoods, is one of Seattle’s key drawbridges and is occasionally closed for maintenance, inspections, or marine traffic.
Motorists were advised to use alternate routes such as the Montlake Bridge or the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge while the University Bridge remained closed. Pedestrian and bicycle access may also be temporarily restricted during certain bridge operations.
Drivers can follow @SDOTbridges on X or visit SDOT’s real-time traffic map for updates on reopening times and future closures.
