Avalanche occurred in Chamoli, Uttarakhand at 7:15 am on 28 February. A mountain of snow slipped, killing 55 people. Till 8 pm last night, 33 people were rescued. 14 people were evacuated this morning. The search for 8 people is going on.

Chamoli DM Sandeep Tiwari said- 4 army helicopters are being used. 7 people have been brought to Joshimath Hospital. More than 200 soldiers of Army, ITBP, BRO, SDRF and NDRF are engaged in the rescue operation. The incident took place in Mana village of Chamoli, 3 kilometers away from Badrinath.

Brigadier MS Dhillon said- Army is continuously carrying out rescue operations since yesterday morning. The rescue operation was carried out throughout the night. Today 14 people have been rescued. He has been sent to the Army Hospital in Joshimath. The condition of one is serious.


PM Modi has taken information about the rescue operation from Uttarakhand CM Dhami. Dhami said that a total of 57 people of Border Road Organization (BRO) were working on Chamoli-Badrinath Highway, out of which 2 people were on leave. All the workers were in the container house at the time of the incident. At the same time, a large portion of snow came down from the mountain and the workers were buried.
