US Homeland Security agents have detained Turkish citizen and Tufts University doctoral student Ramesh Ozturk without any apparent reason, her lawyer Mahsa Khanbabai said.
A video has gone viral on social media in which masked men are seen handcuffing Ramesh. In the video, a man asks, “Why are you hiding your faces?”
According to Ramesha’s lawyer, she was leaving her home on the night of Tuesday, March 25, to meet friends for Iftar when she was stopped.
The arrest was made in Basti without any charges being filed, and his lawyer said in a court filing that no charges have been filed against Ramesha yet. She also says that Ramesha has not been contacted so far and his condition is not known.
