On March 28, 2025, a pro-monarchy rally was held in Kathmandu demanding the restoration of Nepal’s constitutional monarchy and a Hindu nation. There was a violent clash between the protesters and the police. Two people died and more than 100 people, including 77 security personnel, were injured.
Authorities said protesters damaged property, looted police weapons and caused widespread unrest. In response, 105 people were detained, including prominent pro-monarchy leaders.

When the ‘show of strength’ of monarchy supporters began in Kathmandu on Friday, a video became public in which the leader of this demonstration, Durga Prasai, was seen trying to break the barricades by driving a car at high speed.
