Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the Himachal government is in favour of giving reservation to women in the Legislative Assembly. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had made provision for reservation for women in panchayats and local bodies. Special attention will be given to women in the upcoming budget.
He said that women power is the foundation of a self-reliant state. This time the government’s budget will be in the direction of strengthening the rural economy of the state. He was addressing a state-level program on International Women’s Day at Chambi Maidan under Shahpur assembly constituency of Kangra district on Saturday.

The Chief Minister said that the Congress government gave rights to women in ancestral land allotment and now this quota has been increased from 20 to 30 percent in women police recruitment. The government is trying to deploy women in decision-making institutions in the government sector as well.
