25 year old Gill can become Test captain: Bumrah is also in the race

SPORTS & BUSINESS25 year old Gill can become Test captain: Bumrah is also in the race

Right-handed batsman Shubman Gill can be made the captain of the Indian team in Tests. Indian captain Rohit Sharma retired from Tests on 7 May and Virat Kohli on 12 May. His retirement has raised speculations about leadership in the team.

News agency ANI quoted a source as saying, Gill is leading the race to become the captain. Apart from him, Jaspreet Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are also in the race for captaincy. If Pant does not become the captain, he can be made the vice-captain. The selection committee can announce the Indian Test team for the England tour on Saturday, May 24. The tour will start from June 20. India will play a series of 5 Tests there.

Shubhaman is ahead of Bumrah in the race for captaincy. He has captained the team in ODIs and T20s. Among the young batsmen, only Yashasvi, Pant and Shubhaman seem to be permanent at the moment. Shubhaman is 25 years old and Virat also took over the captaincy at almost the same age. Even if Shubman does not become the captain right now, the team can prepare him for the future by making him the vice-captain. In the last 5 years, pitches all over the world have been difficult for batting. Despite this, Shubman has batted brilliantly and scored 5 centuries.
