The Kent Police Department has publicly thanked a local citizen for taking responsible action during a potentially dangerous drunk driving situation early Sunday morning.
According to officials, officers were dispatched around 2:04 a.m. to a bar on Kent’s east hill following reports of a woman passed out in a vehicle. Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old woman who had been drinking heavily and was unable to safely operate her car. Attempts to wake her were unsuccessful, and medical assistance was called. She was later transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police highlighted that a bystander intervened before the situation could escalate by ensuring the woman did not attempt to drive while intoxicated. Authorities credited this individual’s quick thinking with potentially preventing a serious accident.
The department used the incident to remind the public about the dangers of impaired driving and encouraged those struggling with alcohol use to seek help. Resources for treatment and crisis support were also shared.
Officials emphasized that community awareness and responsible actions can play a vital role in keeping roads safe.
