A significant cultural milestone was marked in Seattle as a statue of Swami Vivekananda was officially unveiled at Waterfront Park on April 11, 2026. The ceremony, organized by the Consulate General of India in Seattle, brought together dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the Indian diaspora.
Seattle Mayor Katie B. Wilson attended the event and expressed her appreciation for the monument, highlighting Swami Vivekananda’s enduring message of brotherhood, tolerance, and unity. She noted that his teachings continue to inspire people across the world more than a century later.
The unveiling ceremony was supported by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, emphasizing India’s efforts to promote cultural diplomacy and global awareness of its spiritual heritage.
Swami Vivekananda, a renowned Hindu monk and philosopher, is widely credited with introducing Indian philosophies such as Vedanta and Yoga to Western audiences. The newly installed monument now stands as a symbol of cultural connection and shared values between India and the United States.
Officials and attendees described the event as a celebration of diversity and the growing cultural ties between the Indian-American community and the city of Seattle.
