USAOfficer-Involved Shooting in Federal Way Under Investigation by VIIT

The Tukwila Police Department has shared a press release from the Valley Independent Investigative Team regarding an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Federal Way on February 6, 2026.

According to officials, the incident took place in the 33400 block of 1st Way South after officers responded to a welfare check. When officers attempted to make contact, the individual reportedly produced a firearm and fled the scene. Despite efforts to de-escalate the situation, an officer discharged their weapon, striking the individual.

Officers immediately rendered life-saving aid before the individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The VIIT, a multi-agency task force including departments from Auburn, Des Moines, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle, and King County, is leading the independent investigation. As per protocol, the Federal Way Police Department is not involved in the investigation process.

Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing, with updates expected to be released regularly. No further details have been confirmed at this time.
