Seattle police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, leaving a 26-year-old woman critically injured.
According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 1:30 a.m. near Occidental Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Upon arrival, they found the victim conscious but suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.
Officers administered emergency aid until personnel from the Seattle Fire Department arrived. The woman was then transported to Harborview Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate the victim had been involved in an altercation with a man shortly before the shooting. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been located. Authorities also reported that at least one vehicle was struck by gunfire during the incident.
The case is now being handled by detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit, who are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
