After the controversy over first Samir Raina’s India’s Got Talent and now Kunal Kamra, Mumbai’s Habitat Studio, which is a favourite place for stand-up comedy, has decided to shut down. Shiv Sena workers had vandalised the place after comedian Kunal Kamra’s controversial remarks on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. However, it is clear from the studio’s statement that this step has been taken temporarily.
The studio said in a statement that it was not involved in the making of Kunal Kamra’s new video. It does not support his comments either. Habitat also apologized for Kunal Kamra’s video. In its Instagram post, the studio wrote, “We are shocked, worried and deeply devastated by the brutal incident that has recently happened to us.”
The studio further said that artists are responsible for their own ideas and creative choices. We have never been involved in the content presented by any artist. But recent events have forced us to reconsider how we are blamed and targeted every time.
